Elizabeth Style expresses its unwavering solidarity with the Los Angeles community during this challenging period.
As a native of Los Angeles, it has been profoundly distressing to witness the fear and human rights violations over the past few months, particularly in the past week. As a first-generation Mexican-American, the daughter of immigrant parents, and a first-generation college graduate, my connection to this city is deeply rooted.
Los Angeles, my home, embodies an inexpressible beauty through its diverse culture. It is a melting pot of countless cultures, languages, accents, and aspirations—dreams from every corner of the world. Our profound connection originates from a collective pursuit of a better life, the very dream our parents chased when they arrived in this land of opportunity and freedom. Here, we found solace in one another, united by shared aspirations and adversities, together forming a village built on unity and mutual support.
The unity and support within our communities are truly exceptional. We stand together, fight for one another, and demonstrate unwavering solidarity. Our local and state leaders have been equally exceptional, providing invaluable support and ensuring the safety of our communities. What has unfolded across our nation in recent months is heartbreaking, and I am in utter shock and disbelief. This does not align with the dream our parents once envisioned for their children.
The workforce that forms the backbone of our communities and economy is composed of individuals from all walks of life, regardless of their legal status. With 10 years of experience in the fashion and entertainment industry in Los Angeles, I can attest that immigrants are essential to the operations behind the scenes. Their often unseen contributions are critical to the daily success across various sectors.
This issue is deeply personal, and I will remain committed to advocating for these individuals. It is imperative that they are able to remain in this country, as our communities rely on their invaluable contributions. They are valuable and irreplaceable members of our community.
Our system has failed us, and it is imperative that we act as the voices for those who can't be heard.
We are standing in solidarity and protesting on behalf of those who are being forcibly removed from their homes and communities, and we are fighting tirelessly to protect the fundamental rights that are currently being stripped away.
To support the current efforts and provide essential information, I have compiled and listed a few links with valuable resources below. I will continue to update and share additional resources in the coming days, so please keep an eye out for further communications.
Los Angeles, let's remain strong and united in this crucial time.
